Mirage at the White House

by Jacob Gurewich

And it came to pass from Nine Eleven  2001 to Nine Eleven 2006,

The United States of America was at a raging brutal war—

Against death-defying Arab homicidal  terrorism.

Wake up! A voice called out. Wake up! What do you see?

I see an alien silhouette…Look again, what do you see?

I see splendor and lavishness from sea to shining sea…

But who the hell are you there in the twilight?

Never mind who I am—what do you hear?  Urged the voice.

…I hear lamenting voices…howling…Oh… who are they?

They are bereaved parents, widows, orphans and loved ones,

Echoed the voice from the silhouette—they bewail their nearest and dearest,

Their dead, their maimed and wounded, who died far away on foreign soil

To protect their loved ones on their own American  native soil.

They weep sore, their tears are on their cheeks, they are in pain,

Alleviate their pain--they could never see their loved ones again

Enlighten them why their loved ones did not die in vain!

Ignore your enemies within, the Harry Belafonte’s and their ilk, echoed the voice.

Gather your entire staff in the White House, to tour the States from sea to shining sea,

And call for comforting each and every one of the bereaved, and thousands of the brave

Severely injured, who fought to avoid more despicable Nine Eleven’s.

And it came to pass, on Nine Eleven in year 2006, the White House declared:

There was no silhouette, no voice, no mirage--It was just a gloomy somber reminder…

We defeated and blotted out from the face of the Earth the death-defying homicidal

Arab murderers—and brought our victorious sons and daughters home.

And our flag of freedom and security is hoisted from sea to shining sea.
